The text of the draft law on the protection, preservation and use of the language of the Serbian people and Serbian Cyrillic script is being harmonized with the provisions of the solutions proposed by Serbia, this was confirmed to Glas Srpske in the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska.

The talk of the protection and use of the Serbian language and Cyrillic script was initiated a few years ago in Serbia, and then spilled over to Srpska.

Representatives of Serbs on both sides of the Drina agreed to adopt these draft laws by 15 September – the Day of Unity.

The Ministry expressed the expectation that the National Assembly would be proposed to pass the law within the specified deadline, with the solutions best protecting and affirming the language and script of the Serbian people, not only as a constitutional creation, but also as part of cultural and national identity, i.e. as part of the cultural heritage of the Serbian people.

It was also emphasized that all activities in the next period would be directed towards the protection and preservation of the language of the Serbian people and Serbian Cyrillic script.

Necessary measures will be created and taken, as they say, to strengthen awareness of the importance of its use, and knowledge will be spread about the values and importance of the language of the Serbian people and Serbian Cyrillic script as part of the cultural and national identity.

– As one of the first steps, it is planned to organize a conference on protecting and promoting cultural heritage, where the first part of the conference would be dedicated to language and Cyrillic, as a characteristic element of cultural and national identity – states the Ministry of Education and Culture of Srpska.
