The Serbian Days – Month of Serbian Culture in Hungary event begins today in Budapest, during which this city and Szentendre will host a very rich and diverse program until 24 September.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Budapest Ethnographic Museum today at 18.00h with the participation of many performers and expected attendance of high-ranking officials from Hungary, the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.

Event opening will be attended by the Budapest Church of St. George Choir, Hungarian ballet champions Luka Dimić and Eszter Kovács, and Srpski Venac Serbian Cultural Center Budapest. The String Orchestra of the National Theater of the Republic of Srpska will perform as special guests.

The main organizer is the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Buda, and the patrons are the Office of the President of the Republic of Srpska and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia.

The program will be very rich and diverse, and include exhibitions, concerts, performances by various choirs and musical groups, theater performances, film screenings, and varied cultural and artistic programs.

There will be events held at various locations, including the Tekelianum and Ethnographic Museum in Budapest, the Serbian Church Museum in Szentendre, etc.

The organization and holding of the event involves numerous partners and institutions – Szentendre Serbian Church Museum, Tekelianum, Serbian and BiH embassies, Srpski Venac Serbian Cultural Center Budapest, National Theater of the Republic of Srpska, Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Petrovaradin, Srpski Ekran, Krug Artists’ Association Budapest, in addition to prominent individuals – artists, scientists, cultural workers, and personalities from the world of politics.

According to the organizers, Serbian Days – Month of Culture in Hungary is of exceptional importance for the preservation of national identity, for the maintenance and nurturing of Serbian culture and traditions in the diaspora, the promotion of Serbian culture, the presentation of Serbian spirituality, traditions and contemporary creativity to the general public in Hungary, with the aim of strengthening ties between Serbs in Hungary and their home countries /Serbia and Republic of Srpska/ and Hungary.
