His Holiness, Serbian Patriarch Porfirije extended congratulations to the Cathedral of St. Stephen the First-Crowned in Alhambra, near Los Angeles, on its 75th anniversary of consecration, and invited the Serbs in America to preserve the awareness of unity of the Serbian people, as well as culture and way of life.

The Patriarch wrote on his Instagram account that on the previous day the exquisite Alhambra Cathedral of St. Stephen the First-Crowned in Los Angeles, one of the most beautiful built by Orthodox Serbs in the 20th century, had marked 75 years since its consecration.

– In the greeting I addressed to Bishop Maxim, priests, church municipal officers and parishioners, I reminded them to preserve awareness of the unity of our people, the peculiarities of our culture and way of life – said the Serbian Patriarch.

Patriarch Porfirije notes that neither the magnificent St. Stephen the First-Crowned Cathedral in Alhambra, nor the Church in Vračar dedicated to his equal-to-apostles brother Sava would exist, if Serbs in America did not have such awareness of unity.

– The latter would certainly not exist without the participation of Orthodox Serbs from the North American continent, who made absolutely the greatest contribution to its erection since the eighth decade of the last century, thus showing awareness that the unity of the people is expressed through the sobornost of the Church – wrote Patriarch Porfirije.
