The Minister without Portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, responsible for monitoring the situation, proposing measures and participating in the coordination of activities in the field of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, yesterday opened the 23rd conference of Serbian national organizations from the countries of the region, this year held in Čačak.

Milićević said that the fact that the Conference was being held for the 23rd time spoke of its importance, but also of the need for the Serbian people in the region to connect and work together on issues of relevance for their position and future.

The organizations that bring together Serbs in the region are important and reliable partners of the Serbian Government and the line office, because they preserve the Serbian language and Cyrillic script, our culture and tradition, while also representing the interests of the Serbian community, he pointed out. According to him, in the previous period, this support was reflected in joint programs and projects, support for the operation of our organizations and constant communication with people on the ground, while in the coming period, this cooperation will intensify and the support increase. Only strong and connected Serbian communities can preserve their identity, rights and institutions in the long term, the minister stated, noting that only by joining forces can future generations continue to speak the Serbian language, write in Cyrillic, know their history and proudly preserve their belonging to their people.

He said that the state’s policy was clear – wherever members of the Serbian people live, Serbia must be present through support, care and concrete actions.

The ceremonial opening of this gathering was also attended by the President of the board of directors of the Conference of Serbian National Organizations from the Countries of the Region, Momčilo Vuksanović, PhD.
