This year again, a large number of our children and youth in Austria are looking forward to the restart of operation of Prosvjeta’s Serbian language schools in this country, at the end of September. Many of our citizens, parents, grandparents, whole families are rejoicing with them, because it means that their children will not forget the Serbian language, that they will learn the Cyrillic alphabet, that they will discover everything important from Serbian culture, history, geography, and that they will thus strongly protect their identity, their origins and traditions.

Prosvjeta’s supplementary schools thus enter their tenth year of operation marked with success and progress, because in addition to the existing ones, new schools are opening again this year, all over Austria!

This year, Prosvjeta is also celebrating its jubilee, 120 years since its foundation, and Viennese Prosvjeta is particularly looking forward to marking this significant anniversary with new schools and new actions.

Over the summer, the Prosvjeta schools team led by the founder and manager, prof. Srđan Mijalković, worked diligently on the preparation of new schools, and in cooperation with our churches and interested associations, an almost double-digit number of new schools has been reached in Austria. The preparations are still ongoing, and schools are expected in Graz, Salzburg, Wels, Tulln, Wiener Neustadt, two schools in Linz, four in Tyrol (Innsbruck, Kufstein Wörgl and Wattens) and Vorarlberg!

Operation continues of the existing schools, five schools in Vienna, one each in Enns, Steyr, Gmunden, Braunau and Linz. None of this would have been possible without Prosvjeta receiving the cooperation and support from its partners and friends, first of all the Eparchy of Austria and Switzerland, the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, but also our associations, the Serbian Center, the Association of Serbs in Austria, Tesla and Vidovdan from Linz, St. Sava from Graz, Most from Salzburg, Bosiljak from Wels, SPOJI from Innsbruck and many others.

Prosvjeta invites also other interested individuals and associations to contact them and to form the schools wherever necessary.
