The Serbian educational and cultural society Prosvjeta Austria has solemnly started the new school year 2025/2026 with the proud fact that today every Austrian province has at least one school of Serbian language and culture.

This autumn, new schools were opened in Lower Austria and Burgenland, making the network of Prosvjeta schools fully represented in all nine provinces of the Republic of Austria. The teaching takes place according to an adapted program for children aged 6 to 15, and includes learning the Serbian language and Cyrillic script, as well as getting to know the culture, history and traditions of the Serbian people.

The new schools were opened with the support of Serbian associations, parishes and active community members, who recognized the importance of preserving the mother tongue and identity in the diaspora.

In this process, Prosvjeta has proven to be a factor that connects all Serbian societies in Austria, creating a platform for cooperation and unity.

Successful cooperation is noteworthy with the Alliance of Serbs in Austria, which has given a strong impetus to the development of Prosvjeta schools.

– Our goal is clear, that every child of Serbian origin in Austria has the opportunity to learn their own language and be proud of their origins. Today we can say that we are one big step closer to that goal – said the president of SECS Prosvjeta Austria, Marko Sarić.
