Đorđe Milićević, minister without portfolio in charge of monitoring the situation, proposing measures and participating in the coordination of activities in the field of relations between the Republic of Serbia and the diaspora, opened the event On the Paths of Serbian History, Language, Culture and Tradition in Aranđelovac, saying that this event was living proof of how important it is to cherish the identity, history and roots of the Serbian people, especially among the youngest.
The event brings together over 90 Serbian children from the diaspora and the region, living in Sweden, Czechia, Slovakia, Italy, Austria, Romania, Norway, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Republic of Srpska and Croatia. They are joined by children from various cities and municipalities from Serbia.
‘We are here today to show that Serbia is not just a geographical concept, but a space of soul, belonging and values that are passed down from generation to generation. Serbia bears in mind its children, wherever they live. That is why it is our obligation to create bridges that will connect the young diaspora generations with their roots. This event is one of such bridges. This program is not only educational. It is proof that Serbia cares about you, its children in the diaspora. It is a message that the state wants to preserve not only its borders, but also its spiritual foundations, and these foundations are family, tradition, language and the truth about our history’ – stated Minister Milićević.
The event will offer the children the opportunity to participate in thematic workshops on Serbian language, history, folk traditions, customs and folk dances. They will learn about old crafts, visit significant cultural and historical monuments, religious buildings and sights of Aranđelovac and its surroundings. Special emphasis is placed on preserving cultural and spiritual heritage, which forms the foundation of national identity.
The event On the Paths of Serbian History, Language, Culture and Tradition is a symbol of the strong diaspora’s connection with the motherland and an example of the state’s commitment to preserving national identity through education, culture and experience.
