Đorđe Milićević, the Minister without portfolio in the Government of Serbia in charge of coordinating activities and measures in the field of relations with the diaspora, signed agreements on financial support by the Serbian Government for projects aimed at preserving the Serbian language and alphabet, as well as strengthening the Serbian national and cultural identity in France and Romania.

Milićević met with representatives of Serbian associations from Canada, France and Romania, and signed the agreements with the president of the association All Serbs in Paris Saša Pešić and the president of the Union of Serbs in Romania Ognjan Krstić, announced the office of the Minister without portfolio.

The Minister and Marija Đekić-Ivanković, the president of the Cultural and Educational Committee of the Holy Trinity Church-School Congregation Montreal, agreed on joint activities aimed at strengthening the cultural and educational ties of the motherland with Serbs living in the Canadian province of Quebec.

‘It is of utmost importance that our compatriots, wherever they live, preserve and nurture their language, their culture, their traditions. To preserve the Cyrillic alphabet and never forget it. These are our symbols. If there is no Cyrillic alphabet and Serbian language in the country where they live, then there is no our people either,’ Milićević said.

This year’s financial support program for associations of the diaspora, the region and the home country allocated a total of 79 million dinars for projects aimed at preserving the Serbian language, culture and identity around the world.
