Đorđe Milićević, minister without portfolio in charge of relations with the diaspora in the Serbian Government, said that 5,000 young people from the region and the diaspora had taken part in summer camps in municipalities across Serbia that summer, and that the goal was to gather 10,000 the following year.

At a meeting with mayors and presidents of Serbian municipalities held in Belgrade, Milićević said that 22 thematic camps had taken place that summer and that, in addition to sports, such camps were an opportunity to promote the preservation of Serbian cultural, ethnic and religious identity among youth from the diaspora and the region.

The camps were part of the Program of financial support, measures and activities in the field of preserving and strengthening Serbia-diaspora relations, implemented by Minister Milićević’s office, and 120 million dinars /one million euros/ were allocated for the organization of the camps, announced the office of the Minister.

- We invite all local communities to take part in this camp program because there are no policies or parties in Serbia when it comes to initiatives benefiting children - Milićević said.
