The Director of the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, Arnaud Gouillon, spoke in Vienna at the Austrian Children’s Folklore Ensembles Festival telling the Serbs in this country that the motherland cared for them and did not reduce them to statistics on remittances.

‘The diaspora consists of real families, children for whom we want to fight so that they remain Serbian and so that tomorrow, if they decide to return, we can welcome them in a modern Serbia that cherishes its traditional values’, Gouillon said.

He added that the time of Serbia taking from its diaspora was in the past and that today’s Serbia opened Serbian language schools, supported the work of cultural and artistic societies, organized camps in Serbia for diaspora children to learn about the land of their ancestors.

‘Such a relationship with the diaspora is possible because Serbia has developed economically, because it is led by a president who respects his people wherever they live, in Serbia, in the region or abroad’, said Gouillon.
