The Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, proclaimed Vidovdan a holiday of the city of Chicago.
She made such a decision considering the fact that the city of Chicago has one of the largest Serbian-American communities in the United States, reads the official proclamation of the mayor published on Serbian Mirror.
Such a decision was made also because Serbian emigrants have been settling in Chicago since the 1880s, contributing to the strengthening of the city in the fields of art and music, business and finance, justice and public administration, education and social services, as well as science and medicine, reports Tanjug.
It is reminded that Belgrade and Chicago have been sister cities since 7 June 2005, which formalized the cultural, historical and economic relations existing between Belgrade and Chicago for decades.
