The cultural and artistic society Sveti Nikolaj Srpski from Ulm organized a folklore spectacle attended by about 1,000 of our people. The guests arrived from other German cities, but also from Austria, Switzerland and Serbia. Folklore ensembles performed choreographies on the stage displaying a Sirogojno village panorama on a 10-meter panel.
Program script unfolded with musical background and texts of our most famous celebrated writers. The audience and guests were most impressed by the performance of Vojnička smotra (Military Review), a folklore play in honor of the 142 First World War Serbian soldiers from the Timok, Morava and Drina divisions, who had died as prisoners of war in Germany and were buried in the Ulm military cemetery. Vojnička smotra was prepared and performed by the hosts, members of the St Nikolaj Srpski cultural and artistic society, and the script, which is the work of artistic director Jelena Šimunović, was a true journey through culture and history.
Present of gusle
The Sveti Nikolaj Srpski cultural and artistic society is part of a large family of folklore ensembles that preserve and nurture Serbian tradition and culture. For this very reason the guest from the fatherland, Dragica Radović, vice-president of the Center for Research and Preservation of Traditional Dances of Serbia (Ciotis), presented the gusle to the president of the society.
