The students of Prosvjeta’s Serbian Language School from Graz, Gmunden and Wels visited the capital of Austria last weekend and enjoyed a trip symbolically titled Following Vuk’s Footsteps.

‘Walking through the streets of Vienna, we learned about the history of the most important locations that marked the life of Vuk Stefanović Karadžić in a city that has always gathered the Serbian intellectual elite. So we saw St Roch’s Church (Rochuskirche), where Vuk married Anna Maria Kraus, the house where he lived and died, and we also visited his monument. We found out which contemporaries Vuk hung out with the most, and which major works he published during his stay in Vienna. During the walk, we also passed by the Russian Church and the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia’, said the organizer of this excursion, Dr Marija Đokić.

The children ended their trip in the premises of the Church of St. Sava, with delicious cookies. They thanked warmly Marko Sarić, the president of Prosvjeta (who was also their guide), and teachers Vesna Špirić, Aleksandra Kovačević and Aleksandra Tanasković ‘for making sure everything went smoothly’.
