Serbia’s Statehood Day, Sretenje (Candlemas), was celebrated yesterday also in Vienna, in the presence of a large number of dignitaries.

The ceremony was attended by Nebojša Rodić, Ambassador of Serbia to Austria, Žarko Obradović, Ambassador to the OSCE and UN in Vienna, and Mladen Filipović, Head of the Republic of Srpska Representative Office in Austria.

The celebration was also attended by Bishop Andrej of Austria-Switzerland, a large number of diplomats, military attachés, businessmen and other representatives of the diaspora.

The ambassadors greeted the guests as hosts and noted that Sretenje was one of the most important events in the political, cultural and historical calendar of Serbia.

As a reminder, Serbia celebrated Statehood Day yesterday, to commemorate two important events from the history of Serbia that took place on Sretenje, 15 February – The First Serbian Uprising in 1804 and proclamation of the Sretenje Constitution in 1835.
