The traditional cultural and sports event Meetings of Serbian Countries will take place on Jahorina from Thursday, 27 March, to Sunday, 30 March, bringing together more than 300 participants from Serbia, Republic of Srpska, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Croatia.

The Meetings are organized by the Dobrica Erić Association for the Defense of the Cyrillic Alphabet in cooperation with the Representative Office of the Republic of Srpska in Serbia, with the support of the Office of the President of the Republic of Srpska and assistance of long-term friends of the event.

This year’s event is held under the slogan One Flag, One State, with the purpose of preserving and promoting Serbian culture, language and identity, and strengthening ties between Serbian communities around the world.

The Head of the Republic of Srpska Representation in Serbia, Mlađen Cicović, said that they had been actively involved in the preparation of the program to be held on Jahorina, in Istočno Sarajevo, Istočna Ilidža and Pale.

– We were actively involved in program preparation, so we think that this year the event will reach an even higher level in terms of preserving our identity, our culture, our traditions and our customs – said Cicović.

The President of the Dobrica Erić Association for the Defense of the Cyrillic Alphabet, Ljubinko Stojanović said that a large number of visitors had announced their coming to the event.

– This year we really tried to bring people from remoter parts of Serbia to gather with us on our beautiful Jahorina. They are coming from Ulcinj, Kumanovo, Vukovar, Novi Banovci, Banja Luka, Čačak etc. – said Stojanović.

He stated that the participants would include about ten cultural and artistic societies, Serbian Orthodox chanters, headed by the national ensembles Kolo and Venac.

On Thursday, 27 March, together with the Pale Veterans’ Organization, event participants will visit the Mali Zejtinlik cemetery near Sokolac, lay wreaths and have a history lesson.

The organizers will present award for the preservation of the Serbian language, script and Cyrillic alphabet, which bears the name of Dobrica Erić, while the Srbija Orthodox Sports Association will take eight children in the running for the award to Corfu for 14 days.
