The ceremonial closing of the exhibition Uroš Predić in Szentendre was held on Friday, 15 May 2026, at the Serbian Church Museum in Szentendre, thus successfully concluding one of the most significant cultural programs organized by the Museum. The exhibition was open to the public since 13 September 2024, and for its duration attracted a large number of visitors, art lovers, researchers and admirers of Serbian cultural heritage.
The exhibition was dedicated to the life and work of the great Serbian painter Uroš Predić, with a special focus on his connections with Szentendre and the Serbian community in Hungary. Visitors had the opportunity to see valuable works of art, archival materials, photographs and documents that testify to the presence and importance of the great painter, as well as to learn about the personal and cultural ties between Predić and Szentendre.
On the occasion of the exhibition closing ceremony, a new publication dedicated to this exhibition was presented, in a joint edition of the Serbian Church Museum in Szentendre and the Gallery of Matica Srpska, all part of the Serbian-Hungarian cultural season. The authors of the publication, Kosta Vuković, PhD, and Snežana Mišić, PhD, who further illuminated Predić’s creative oeuvre and its connection with the Serbian cultural heritage in Hungary through scientific texts and rich illustrative material, presented the new edition, which is both a significant contribution to the study of Serbian art and a lasting testimony to the exhibition that aroused great public interest.
The closing ceremony was also attended by Ms Rita Vujić, who had donated the precious icon of Saint George, the work of Uroš Predić, to the Szentendre Serbian Church Museum. This valuable work of art, which once belonged to the Vujić family and was unknown to the public, represents one of the most significant recent contributions to the museum’s collection and was the central part of the exhibition. Ms Vujić’s presence gave the ceremony a special emotional and symbolic significance, as a testimony to the importance of preserving the family and cultural heritage of the Serbian community in Hungary.
The exhibition Uroš Predić in Szentendre left a strong impression on the audience and confirmed the importance of the Szentendre Serbian Church Museum as an important center of cultural memory, art and spirituality of the Serbian people in Hungary. On behalf of His Eminence, Metropolitan of Budapest Lukijan, the ceremony was attended by the deputy archpriest, protoiereus-stavrophor Vojislav Galić.
