The Minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia responsible for monitoring the situation, proposing measures and participating in the coordination of activities in the field of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, and the Deputy Mayor of Valjevo, Đorđe Milanović, signed yesterday the first agreement on the implementation of this year’s thematic summer camp for youth from the diaspora and the region to be held in that city.
Milićević said on that occasion that the criteria for meeting the requirements were strict, and that the content of the camps would be of the highest quality so far.
The Minister expressed his expectation that more than five thousand children and young people would visit their country, and that local governments would do everything possible to ensure that the memories they take back from Serbia be the best possible. Camp participants come from different parts of Europe and the region, and these activities offer them the opportunity to learn the Serbian language, study their culture, develop sportsmanship and create friendships with peers from their homeland, the Minister pointed out.
Milićević specified that children from the diaspora and the region had access to the camps offering education on ecology, culture, and sports, and explained that each local government could decide on the area in which to organize and implement the program.
I am proud of the partnership we are building with local governments, stated the Minister and said that the implementation of the thematic summer camps confirmed the commitment to jointly strengthening relations with the diaspora and the region.
