The Minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia responsible for monitoring the situation, proposing measures and participating in the coordination of activities in the field of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, held the first online meeting yesterday with representatives of Serb organizations in the region and the diaspora on holding this year’s Vidovdan Assembly Unity and Strength – Serbia, which will take place from 29 to 31 May.
On that occasion, Milićević said that the idea of a consultative dialogue with our compatriots and representatives of umbrella organizations that bring together Serbs outside the homeland was to consider all topics of interest and importance for the improvement of relations between the diaspora and the homeland through a continuous process.
He stated that this year’s Unity and Strength – Serbia event would be held on the eve of the important year in which Belgrade would host the specialized Expo 2027 exhibition, and added that a large number of Serbs from the diaspora and the region would be actively involved in its promotion. Milićević noted this was a good opportunity for our compatriots from abroad to further connect their knowledge, capital and experience with other nations of the world, but also to better understand the potential of their country.
The Minister also informed the participants of the online meeting about the activities carried out by his office to strengthen and establish two-way communication with our compatriots from the diaspora and the region. Unless we design projects that concern the future, we will lose the bridge that connects future generations, said the Minister, and invited umbrella organizations that bring together Serbs outside Serbia to register their youth and children to take part in traditional summer camps organized by the office. He recalled that more than five thousand children had participated in thematic camps the year before and added that this year he expected an even larger number of participants to visit Serbia.
The Minister said that this year’s Unity and Strength – Serbia Vidovdan Assembly was an opportunity to discuss all open issues, and invited our representatives of umbrella organizations to submit proposals and initiatives, adding that the event would be the largest to date, both in terms of its content and essence.
