A children’s performance, symbolically called Under the Same Sky, was held in Celje on 19 April, organized by the Serbian Supplementary School in Slovenia and teacher Darinka Tanasković, the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Desanka Maksimović Serbian Cultural and Humanitarian Society from Celje. More than 40 participants performed in the program. Students of the Serbian Supplementary School, children attending religious education classes at the Serbian Orthodox Church, and children members of the Šareniš choir had the opportunity to show their talents.
The goal of this activity was to connect children from different places — Prevalje, Celje and Velenje — through a joint program that fosters the Serbian language, culture and tradition. Children of different ages, from preschool to ninth grade of elementary school, participated in the program.
The program was carefully curated by selecting poems for recitation that carried strong messages about love, friendship, childhood, growing up and true life values. The theme of the entire performance was unity — the idea that, despite the different places we come from, we all belong to the same space, language and culture — Under the Same Sky.
The audience had the opportunity to enjoy recitations, choral singing, and instrumental performances on the accordion, trumpet, clarinet and harp. A special impression was left by the stage shows, which further enriched the program and enabled the youngest to express themselves through movement and dance.
The audience’s reactions were positive, and the students showed a high level of engagement, responsibility and creativity. Such activities confirm the importance of unity and continuous work on preserving language, identity and cultural heritage among children in the diaspora. The performance Under the Same Sky once again showed that joint effort and love can create valuable and inspiring moments that remain in the memory for a long time.
