Last weekend in Gothenburg, Sweden, the Serbian Society Sinđelić celebrated its 50th anniversary.

‘It is a great honor to head such a society that is celebrating half a century of existence. Sinđelić SS was founded back in 1974 and as such is the first Serbian society in Europe. This year, our main goal will be to present culture, discuss Serbdom, preserve Serbian faith, Serbian tradition, culture, and these have been the principal tasks for all of us in these 50 years,’ says Svetislav Sveta Lazić, president of the Serbian Society Sinđelić..

‘It is an exceptional jubilee and a great honor and privilege to be part of this evening’s Sinđelić SS jubilee. Half a century of dedicated, committed effort, work, energy, aimed at preserving our culture, history, tradition, identity and the first 50 years of existence and operation of the SS Sinđelić are a symbol of the strength and unity of our people living in Gothenburg, Sweden. But this is not only about the history and story of a society, this is about the resolve and determination of our people to preserve their symbols, language, Cyrillic, roots, cultural and historical heritage no matter how far from their homeland, and that is why for me the SS Sinđelić is far more and much more significant than a simple cultural and artistic society,’ says Republic of Serbia Government’s minister Đorđe Milićević.

‘Preserving your identity, your language, culture with great pride while being part of a wider community, very complex in today’s world, this is a great challenge to which our Serbs here have responded very positively,’ says Jelena Čukić Matić, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Kingdom of Sweden.
