The renovated Grandpa Triša’s Mill in Hašani, the birthplace of author Branko Ćopić, is increasingly attracting visitors’ attention.
In a rather limited space, with burble of the Kalin stream and sound of the watermill, anyone who visits will remember some earlier times, Ćopić’s childhood and the characters he immortalized in his works.
The President of the Branko Ćopić Homeland Society, Dušanka Dakić, told Srna that the offer should be supplemented.
According to her, on-call work has been organized since the second half of last month.
– We are glad when visitors come. I remember being on call on the first Sunday when visitors came and stopped and asked where to pay the entrance fee. We welcome visitors with a smile and at no charge – she said.
Dakić said that visitors were interested in buying watermill-ground flour, and inquired about souvenirs.
– We started preparing souvenirs to be sold at a symbolic price. We want everyone who visits Hašani to take fond memories with them – she pointed out.
According to her, members of the Branko Ćopić Homeland Society have a lot of ideas regarding spatial development, but the activities are limited by finances.
The renovated Grandpa Triša’s Mill is part of the Marshmallow Color Garden project, designed in 2015, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Branko Ćopić.
The memorial school and Grandpa Triša’s Mill have been renovated in Hašani, and last year the construction of a replica of Ćopić’s birth house was completed.
Throughout the distance of about two kilometers from the memorial school, along Ćopić’s birth house, to the mill, signs have been placed along the road bearing quotes from Ćopić’s works, photographs and other information.
