Today is 8 March – International Women’s Day!
It commemorates the first public protest of women employed in the garment and textile industry in 1857 in New York.
The textile workers protested against poor working conditions and low wages.
The 8 March protests became a tradition in the following years, and those most massive took place in 1908, when 15,000 women marched through the streets of New York, requesting shorter working hours, better pay and the right to vote.
The President of the Republic of Srpska, Želјka Cvijanović, wished a happy 8 March – International Women’s Day to all women and pointed out that the need for further emancipation of women was a permanent task of society as a whole.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska, Radovan Višković, extended his greetings on the occasion of 8 March, International Women’s Day, announced the Public Relations Bureau of the Government of Srpska.
The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Nedeljko Čubrilović, wished a happy 8 March – International Women’s Day, on behalf of the National Assembly and on his own behalf, emphasizing that the National Assembly would continue to work with systemic measures and quality legal solutions to further improve women’s rights and position in the society.
