The event Ivo Andri\u0107 \u2013 Life and Work organized by the Alliance of Serbs in Styria on the occasion of the centenary of Ivo Andri\u0107\u2019s doctoral defense held on 5 April 2024, filled the hall of the Karl Franzens University of Graz. Goran Jovi\u0107, president of the Alliance of Serbs in Styria, stated several important facts about the Alliance\u2019s long-term plans, in addition to the importance of such events for the community in Graz and beyond.<\/p>\n
\u2018It is our obligation to continue reading, researching and passing on to future generations the works of Ivo Andri\u0107, but also of all those who contributed to the richness of our culture with their pen,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
The following associations helped organize this event: Serbian Educational and Cultural Society Prosvjeta Austria \u2013 Styria branch, cultural and artistic society Sveti Sava Graz, KERB (Cultural Heritage Integrity and Integration), Serbian Sports Club Obili\u0107 Graz, CO Serbs for Serbs \u2013 Austria, cultural and sports society Bo\u017euri and Church Choir of the Temple of Saints Cyril and Methodius Graz.<\/p>\n
Anastasija Jungi\u0107 gave a lecture on Andri\u0107\u2019s life. Professor emeritus Branko To\u0161ovi\u0107 gave a lecture on Graz about Andri\u0107, Andri\u0107 about Graz, and about lesser-known facts from Andri\u0107\u2019s life. Prof. Dragana Heigli, a teacher at Prosvjeta\u2019s Serbian language school in Graz, spoke about the importance of Andri\u0107\u2019s creativity for literature of South East Europe and Austria.<\/p>\n
\u0422homas Horst Ali\u0107, a member of the city council, was delighted with the organization and energy of this event and conveyed the greetings of the Mayor, Ms Elke Kahr.<\/p>\n
As is entirely in his nature, the acting genius Tihomir Stani\u0107 excelled in the performance of the monodrama The Bridge on the Drina.<\/p>\n
The program was conducted bilingually by Irina Karamarkovi\u0107, PhD, chairwoman of the Migrant Advisory Council Graz.<\/p>\n
The past event Ivo Andri\u0107 \u2013 Life and Work is one in a series of events within the Serbian-Austrian Bridges project. Great support for that project came from Austrian and Serbian institutions.<\/p>\n
